Amen for ASOS: New Year, Better Style

You know ASOS, right? It’s a global online fashion and beauty retailer for men and women. Their target market is the 20s and early 30s so it may not resonate immediately with some of you but it’s always worth a peek. Style note: as it is based in the UK and given it’s target market, my recommendation will always be to size up one to two sizes depending on the give of the garment and the styling!! That said, they

The Navy Suit Blues

I love navy blue {who doesn’t know that if they’ve read my posts?!} so, when I read this article in Details Magazine, it only made sense to share. Blue is a very conventional color but the predominant shades of blue for this season are anything but…. Know your blues: cornflower ~ a washed-out azure, it’s a a more common color for a button-down shirt than a suit and looks terrific with a darker blue like navy della robbia blue ~

Fall Color Report 2013

By now, you know Pantone’s Color of the Year is Emerald Green but, here’s a look at all of the hot colors of the year….on the runways, in the stores, and sure to show up in your closet! Note: I’ve added just two hints of emerald green to my closet as it’s not my color ~ I’m sticking with navy, red and camel.

Men’s Fall Color Report 2013

I’m not suggesting that men should walk around sporting bright red or emerald green on an everyday basis but, a hint or pop of color in a sea of navy can do wonders for morale! If someone “forced” your hand, which color would you add to your closet? I’d suggest samba or acai ~ both are rich, deep and lush but not too brash so as to offend your neutral senses….

What Is Your Decade of Color Influence?

Besides navy blue, I have always loved earth tones, so the 1920s is perhaps my decade of color influence….which is yours? Read what some top designers say about their what influences their color selections… ADEAM by Hanako Maeda I am fascinated by International Klein Blue, which was introduced in 1958 by artist Yves Klein. This Bright, Electric Blue is truly one of a kind. Angelo Galasso The ’60s are the years that fascinate me the most. I associate colors like Light Blue

The Belle of the Ball

That was me! Not sure if I was supposed to be but, the 2013 Ambassadors Ball at Carnegie Library (across the street from the official ball) had a life of it’s own. I’d say less formal gala and more high-end party…… There was a fashion menagerie from long sundresses (yes, sundresses) to full-length formal ball gowns to shorter, zestier looks likely found at another event. That said, we had entertainment by Biz Markie and the wonderfully gorgeous and gracious Miss

Emerald: Pantone 2013 Color of the Year

Last year it was Tangerine Tango. The year before it was Honeysuckle. 2010 it was Turquoise. This year, Pantone’s color of the year is Emerald: a vibrant, rich and multi-faceted color because it plays so nicely with warm and cool tones. By virtue of my recent fascination with camouflage and my wardrobe update of navy blue, I am truly excited by this! What am I going to run and scoop? I’m not 100% sure because I need to feel it

Daytime Sequins, Evening Sparkle

Do you own sequins? I do (now)! Have you ever wondered whether you can wear sequins during the day? and if you could, how? The rules on traditional eveningwear have recently gone out the window and it’s a daytime free-for-all. I’ve spent many a hour creating an “outfit” around sequins. I used to think they were gauche and something my older aunt would wear to her 25th class reunion until I was doing some client shopping and found this sequin

A Lesson in Whiskey

I don’t know a thing about whiskey….but it’s stylish (& a bit sexy) to be able to order it right! All bourbons, scotches and ryes are whiskey Not all whiskeys are bourbon, scotch or rye Bourbon is corn-based Scotch is made from barley and hops Rye is made from rye (duh!) In a pinch, ordering “bourbon from Kentucky” will work since it can be used in most whiskey drinks Here’s more from Marie Claire…

Item of the Week: Feminine Leather

Lately, I’ve been pausing on any page or sighting of leather – and no, I’m not succumbing to my inner vixen. The leather I’ve been craving has been in the form of leggings (nothing new) and peplum tops. They are so dang expensive though….DVF has one for $600, 3.1 Philip Lim has a long sleeve version for $1,350, and the list goes on. They’re still not cheap but I found two worthy of possible consideration by Timo Weiland and Elizabeth

Political Style Battle #3: Who Wore It Best?

What a coinky-dink that Michelle Obama and Ann Romney both had a pink dresses for the debate this week! They’re stylists should have coordinated – or perhaps they did! So who wore it best? Neither really brought the “thunder”: Michelle’s MIchael Kors sheath and cropped jacket were nice enough but kinda stodgy. And her jewelry didn’t pop. Ann Romney’s Oscar de la Renta dress, blue nail polish and green necklace were colorful but disjointed. No matter the sartorial blunder, let’s
