eff you!

{photo from handresearch.com} You know the hand gesture associated with that, correct? Most of us do — it’s universal in just about any language but you might not be aware of some of the other gestures that could get you into deep water, or even save you. As part of my Executive Style Curation services, I work with executives to ensure they’re up on the cultural nuances of the countries they are traveling to, so I wanted to share a

Like, Love, Lust, or Leave It?

I’ve been looking at these and going back and forth….. wide trousers are not typically flattering for ladies with hips there’s a lot going on with the print they’re silk ~ which makes them more clingy {yikes!} slant hip pockets {not cool again for ladies with ample hips} love the wide racing stripes {very sweatpants-like} overall: leave it….love the colors and respect Derek Lam‘s contemporary casual line 10 Crosby but the overall styling will require more work than the $335 should

Men’s Style Tip

No longer does wrinkle-free mean uncool. If you travel then you know how difficult it is to get off a Transatlantic flight and still look fresh {not to mention a trip to Africa of the Far East}; and not everyone has the pleasure and comfort of traveling in business or first class. If you’re like me, you’ll need to be ready to hit-the-ground-running when you land. The answer is wrinkle-free and the best brands to ensure you look like a

Is There Such A Thing As Stylish Eats?

I’d say the easy answer is “yes”. Yes not only because that’s the rhetorical question/title of this post, but also because we have television shows that talk about “dives”; we have restaurant ratings that include “upscale dining”; and we have numerous jokes about where we will and won’t eat based on whether the menu is posted or not. So what is stylish eats? Since this is my blog, my rules: Delectable eats and treats {if you want to lick your

Art as Inspiration for Accessories

I’m in DC and the weather is overcast today {albeit not cold…yay!} but on gloomy days, I love to throw some color in the mix. The beauty of Julia Kostreva‘s colorblock notebooks are they (1) are relatively inexpensive when compared to a pair of designer shoes [$16], (2) they’re fashionable with the use of colorblocking {which is very “in” this season}, (3) you can use them all the time and no one can say anything about ‘seeing you with them

Go High-end Webster or Go Target

We just got word that The Webster in Miami is doing a designer collab with Target. This collab, due out in May, will feature a collection in which everything is under $50 (hello!) and while it likely won’t be the same stuff from Milan Vukmirovic‘s super high-end Miami hot spot {they carry Balmain and most of their shoes run 4-5-6-$700+ bucks!}, we’re almost assured the $18 Havaianas will be! This store is for you if you want ‘uptown boy meets city

Do Be A DODO

I have been on a mini-mad-hunt to find a cool iPad case….my criteria has been somewhat soft ~ stylish, colorful, not visually overwhelming, sleek, slightly functional, fun, non-bulky. A great friend of mine, Sara of Skincando, put me on to DODOcase and I’m now in love ~ and 75% sure this is the case I want! What do you think? Can I do better? Makari Products Review

I’m not a big beauty shopper but most people wouldn’t believe that ~ they believe fashion and beauty to be inextricably intertwined. Well they are connected but very different. I know my fashion and style, but the world of beauty and products are vast. I rely almost entirely on the wisdom of my beauty bloggers, so when asked to research Makari, purchase a product, and review the experience….it was a bit daunting. But I did it!! I research the line

Luxe vs. Less

One of the big trends I’m loving is navy! And to make the transition from winter (albeit very mild) to spring is with pieces that layer….waah-laa! What I always share with my clients ~ if a designer is doing, there’s a lesser known/non-designer brand out there that is making it as well.

Red Accessory

One of my accent colors for this season (and last season BTW) is red, but I’ve found it difficult to find fabulous accessories that are reasonably priced and that I would use without a lot of fuss. {Enter stage left} This cool graduating spot print scarf from Oasis ($35) ~ yummy for my summer nautical looks of navy and white, and just awesome because I wear scarves everywhere, all year!

Midas Touch

Three discoveries I’ve made over the years: I’m enjoying the look of gold against my skin (I’ve been a silvertone girl until now)…. Flats without ‘walls’ are for people with skinny feet (which is not me) ~ but I can appreciate that these sandals {which come in black too} will get just about everywhere this summer and make a more polished substitute for flip flops! Nine West is doing a much better job at creating cute shoes that even the

Truth or Dare?

This is the name of Madonna‘s new shoe line to be produced by Aldo. The 60+ shoes will sell between $89 and $349, and will include everythign from flats, heels, booties, and OTKs (over-the-knee boots). The styles are apparently based on Madonna’s fabvorites, targeted to women aged 27 – 50 years old, and are “dance inspired”. Sweet deal ~ her stylist, Arianne Phillips, will serve as Truth or Dare‘s creative consultant. Our initial verdict: the nicer ones will be a

Rules of the Road

The winter has been super mild and we’ve been getting several samplings of spring weather…and it’s only March! My takeaway is that we need to get our spring/summer wardrobe in order sooner rather than later. For men, there are a ‘few rules of the road’ that, if adhered to, will make spring shopping easier and ensure your casual says “luxe” not sloppy. Fit is it. Even the most casual pants are made instantly more sophisticated when they fit correctly. Spend

Luxe Love…for March

Lest you forget, in addition to blouses, statement necklaces is my other focus for 2012. Not everything I scout for is on sale ~ case in point: this Nest lapis pendant necklace. Why? It’s slightly behemian styling keeps it from being too serious The blue of the lapis goes with any/all denim! The length (18″ L) and pendant rest perfectly in the “v” of most shirts for display purposes…. It’s meaty and fabulous enough to be noticed but not
