ELF & My Everyday Beauty Regimen

Across the last 30 days, I’ve been working hard on my #BodyReboot and as a part of that, I’ve been doing some revamping of my beauty regimen as well. Now before I go any further, know this ~ I am not a beauty junky actually quite the opposite. I’m in love with style and fashion, and deathly afraid of beauty products and makeup. I typically utilize the services and expertise of All About The Pretty to make any decision. But I’m

Makari Products Review

I’m not a big beauty shopper but most people wouldn’t believe that ~ they believe fashion and beauty to be inextricably intertwined. Well they are connected but very different. I know my fashion and style, but the world of beauty and products are vast. I rely almost entirely on the wisdom of my beauty bloggers, so when asked to research Makari, purchase a product, and review the experience….it was a bit daunting. But I did it!! I research the line

Glasses = Signature Style

I have a few clients with glasses and we’ve done a bit of glasses shopping. What some folks don’t know (or don’t remember) is that I wear glasses too! Well ~ technically, I’ve been in contacts for 20+ years, but you get the picture…. I headed to GlassesUSA.com to peruse the site and actually liked it! GlassesUSA is a fabulous alternative if you need spec at a reduced price…becuase who doesn’t want something for less {read: cheap glasses}?! I checked

Movie: A Thousand Words

I like Eddie Murphy (don’t love him though), but I love Kerry Washington. Actually, more accurately, I love Kerry’s style ~ always tasteful, feminine, fun, a bit flirty, and confident so when I was asked to talk about her upcoming move, A Thousand Words, that was an easy sell. From all appearances, she seems to be extremely grounded and easygoing but with a bit of zesty undertone…who knows if I’m right but if her clothes are any indication of the woman

‘Little Black Dress Approved’

C’mon which deodorant am I talking about? Yep Degree! I’m not a huge ‘sweat-er’ but I have lots of clients who are and, frankly, it can be a little disheartening especially when we’re talking about that fabulous shirt you want to rock but you’re afraid you’ll sweat right through it. Degree to the rescue ~ this Clinical Protection formula is the remedy to all but the most severe cases. It’s motion activated It’s an anti-perspirant & deodorant It has moisturizing

Romare Bearden Is Traveling to D.C.

Clearly not the man himself since he passed away in 1988, but Macy’s celebrates the 100th birthday of Romare Bearden for Black History Month in conjunction with The Romare Bearden Foundation. Although the exhibition will be available February 16-19, the reception is on February 16th at 5:30PM. Born in Charlotte, NC, Bearden focused mostly heavily on the lives of travelers on their way to and from home.  Displayed most prominently in Black Odyssey, his 1977 series of 20 collages based on episodes from

Marsha Ambrosius Style

This sponsored post by Lexus is the last in a series focused on various artists and written word poets. This week we’re looking at Artist Marsha Ambrosius and Poet Georgia Me. I have watched Marsha while she was part of Floetry and afterwards….always with her own style and slightly chic bohemian. She tapped into her true north personal style continuously and has found her own voice [no pun intended]. What we love about her style as seen in this photo: She is

Style Hotness…Or Not?

Melanie Fiona is very pretty and her voice is extraordinary ~ and that’s why she’s being featured on TV One’s Verses & Flow series sponsored by Lexus. That said, let’s take a quick walk through her style prowess: Overall the Canadian-born singer has a terrific shape standing at a taller-than-average 5’8′. She creates an even more statuesque appearance by rocking heels and keeping her clothing fitted on her legs Her jailed-striped outfit provides a fashion lesson for all ~ you can wear

Naturally 7 Needs A More Natural Look

Naturally 7 is a signing group of seven gentleman from New York City who has this amazing gift for a cappella. Lexus is sponsoring this post but I can only share my honest insights: they rock!! With seven singers, it’s fairly difficult to nail harmony except, in their case, they’ve done it. What they haven’t nailed is their signature style ~ which again is difficult but essential with seven guys. They look like a typical boy band and that’s the ‘kiss of death’. Do you agree? With such harmony

OMG Makeup & Me!

Thanks to L’Oreal for sponsoring my post about my favorite beauty looks, tips and tricks! Check out Makeup.com for beauty advice from the experts. As a ‘gift’ to myself when I turned 40 years old, I said I would do a few things including finding a new signature drink (this is still underway…stay tuned!) and discovering the perfect red lipstick that would be my new everyday color (scary yes, but totally doable). As fate would have it, I was selected

Celebrity Style: Angie Stone

Angie Stone is full-figured and still loves to show her shape. She keeps it sophisticated by not showing skin (classy ladies show skin or shape, but not both). And we love the obi wrap and found a couple fabulous options by Diane von Furstenberg and The Limited. I have a faux obi wrap and for anyone who has seen me int he last two months, you know I wear it all the time….perhaps it’s time to get the real deal! Anyway, we love

Celebrity Style: Tyrese

Tyrese is quite fashionable stylish, and this picture shows us his dapper side. What I quietly admire about his style is its natural edginess that still manages to show through as curated casual rather than street chic. Check out his double-breasted sweater jacket ~ it has a great casual and cool feel to it, yet the double-breasted styling gives it polish and finish. Was it just because he was on stage or would we catch him like that on any given day? My

Celebrity Style: Estelle

Estelle – she’s an artist from Britian and while she has a terrific voice, she also has this edgy flow that is fabulous. Sometimes I’m not quite sure what’s she’s saying, but I know that most days I love her style! She’s all about the outfit and not the accessories which is very atypical (see picture below). Plus she’s a great role model for those with a less curvy shape because she proves you can still look feminine without much

Celebrity Style: Ledisi

At Blueprint for Style, we rarely highlight celebrities and their style because (#1) they rarely have true style, and (#2) much of theirfashion/style doesn’t translate to the everyday diva or fashionista. However…. Ledisi is an exception. Why? Let’s start with a few incontrovertible facts: Ledisi is not a size two Ledisi is top-heavy given her stature Ledisi is not ‘tall and skinny’ Ledisi has ample hips and a butt Ledisi has a powerful voice and wonderful range (not related but thought you should know)

Sensible Sweater Season with Lands’ End Canvas

I love summer but, admit that fall is one the est times of years especially for dressing. The warm colors of fall like yellow, orange/rust, brown, and deep green make it wonderful to skip about on a Saturday, or hit a few vintage stores or flea markets on Sunday, or just catch up with old friends. Lands End Canvas had this fabulous striped button-back sweater and I’m in love with the bold orange stripes, three-quarter sleeves and, of course, the button-down

Yummie Tummie Jeans!

Yes, they exist! Ok I am super behind, but I had the chance earlier this summer to chat it up with Heather Thomson, the CEO of Yummie Tummie, and besides being a disciple of her shapewear (which is breathable and flexible), I just gushed over how cool and humble she was.  We’ll feature the interview we did with her later this week, but today I’m all about the denim I sported during New York’s Fashion Week (it’s that time of year and

Longlasting Lipstain

New York Color Smooch Proof 16H Lipstain Ok so first- it doesn’t last for 16 hours but it’s great for about 4 hours (even after eating) I ordered the Champage Stain and as a brown-skinned African American, it gives a punch of color that is pretty natural It isn’t drying but I think it requires a gloss on top Overall: I’d give it a 4/10 because I think there are other longer lasting, richer stains with more gloss

The Burke Trouser

I love denim and, as much as the 70’s glam trend doesn’t love me, I love it!  Enter: the Burke Trouser by Genetic Denim.  A slight play off the 70’s silhouette with its wide leg and hip pockets, I received them in gusto and instantly feel in love with the lightweight denim (idela for spring and early fall). Because of the 70’s feel, the legs run long (35″ inseam) while the waist and hip are more snug especially for a

The Best Email Ever!

Thank you to Yahoo! Mail for sponsoring this post about staying connected. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do. Where were you when you received the best email ever?  What was that email about?  Mine was back in early 1993 when the concept of email was still slightly obscure if not outright “strange”.  And it was slightly anti-climatic as well. I had just graduated from the University of
