Don’t Shirt the Issue

Instead of sterile racks of shirts, you’ll see saddles, vintage maps of London and late-1800s photos of Richmond, all shipped up from Ledbury’s tobacco-warehouse-turned-showroom. (Blame the Surgeon General.) You’ll order up a bourbon from the bar in one corner and take in the stylings of the bluegrass banjo player in the other.

Manly Monday Style Meter (on Tuesday)

A stylish start to the week from last week’s lessons learned…. Double-fisted: one cell phone is hard enough to manage but, two….not cool (and unsafe). Mistaken identity: (this is really for the ladies) don’t mistake kindness for weakness….men “power thru”! See.  Do.  Be.  Dapper.

Spring Cleaning Tips: #4 (sweaters & bottoms)

Men & sweaters: these should be a staple in your wardrobe and, like crayola, come in many colors and styles.  Focus on 1 or 2 cardigans, 1 zip-front sweater that can double as a jacket but not as stiff, and 3-5 pullovers (crewneck or v-neck….v-neck being optimal especially if you’re more solid).  There are others but, let’s start with that so, if they have holes…take them to your tailorwho can tell you whether they are repairable otherwise, let them go.

Color Me Happy

Transitioning from winter to spring can mean re-arranging your closet, shuffling clothes from closet to closet or storage to closet, or even a few moments of angst to find suits that no longer fit or shirts with holes in them but, to kick spring off in style is simple.  Consider changing out your standard white shirt for a more colorful alternative: If you go with a colorful shirt, keep everything else understated and neutral Opt for a more traditional tie to “calm”

Spring Cleaning Tips: #3 (pants & shoes)

Men & pants: just like the ladies, if you’re having trouble fastening the last button, (take a silent moment) and agree to let them go!  If you’re under 45 and your pants have darts/inverted pleats, please discard them.  and for the professional man, if you own more than three pairs of sweats, please explain….because all of your work and outings don’t even lend themselves to having that many- trash them. Women & shoes: this is a sensitive subject so let’s

Stay Dry, Stay Stylish

I love to hear sound advice and here’s some great insights from Burberry about how to shop for a raincoat: 1. Come Prepared: When buying a raincoat, wear a suit jacket to the store. You need to know how it’ll layer up: is there room in the shoulders? Does it look bulky at any point? 2. Know Your Materials: Find out what the coat is made of and whether it’s water-resistant, such as waxed cotton (good), or waterproof, such as

Simply, Helmut Lang

A man of few words and even fewer public appearances, Helmut Lang is considered the forefather of minimalist designs and has with surgical precision, laid groundwork for other great designers like Dries van Noten.  Here are a few notables: Lang was born in 1956 in rural Vienna, Austria.  Of growing up in such spartan surroundings, Helmut said, “To grow up under really simple circumstances and to understand that certain things were ornamental—the idea of the simple life interrupted by the

Summer Essential Scarf

Sounds a tab bit strange but, for those of you who are avid scarf wearers, you know what we’re talking about here.  Sometimes a light and airy scarf is all you need to ward off the cool summer breeze in the evening or add a pop of color to your summer uniform. And Lindsay Phillips can help do it without breaking the bank — most scarves are around $25 (I grabbed the Bridget Pink)!  A great alternative to a jacket

Two More Target Collabs: Cynthia Vincent & Eugenia Kim

While these collaborations aren’t due into Target stores until Sunday, April 18th, some stores appear to have jumped the gun.  But that’s not important nor is the point of this post — more importantly, these collabs mark two more notches in Target’s belt and pursuit to bring high-end fashion with low-end pricing. Cynthia Vincent: she is the designer behind Twelfth Street (2003).  While Cynthia started designing clothes that became staples for the Ashley twins and the likes, she began designing shoes and recntly

Men’s Spring Purchase Tip

This one is easy (and essential): a v-neck sweater.  Now you may wonder why we are so specific in the advice that it should be a v-neck as opposed to crewneck sweater — simply put, a v-neck creates a more open look and with less stuck to wrap around your neck, you’ll be cooler (in all ways)!  The best options for spring v-necks include: J Crew Express Men Gap Barneys Opt for something with at least a splash of color and

Spring Cleaning Tips: #2 (shirts & sweaters)

Men & shirts: a few have little itsy bitsy teeny holes in them…likely from keeping the plastic on them so, let them go.  Any shirt that has a frayed or slightly discolored collar, just say ‘goodbye’; and consider any shirt where you can no longer button the top button as too small!! Women & sweaters: ‘fabric shavers are great wardrobe extenders (used for removing the occasional peeling) but if you have to do the entire sweater and it takes more
