NYFW: Catherine Malandrino

Catherine Malandrino‘s collection used black as the base color but spiced it up with jewel toned evening dresses. The overall collection was very real-woman friendly with ruching, empire waists, and sashes that revealed just enough shape or open decolletages.  I loved it….including the fur and chinchilla bomber with a leather waist! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week…Basics

A New York based magazine, Manhattan, asked five seasoned veterans to talk about their 2011 collections in five words or less… “Structured ease.” Yigal Azrouel “A dark, mysterious energy.” Chris Benz “Hazy imagery with deceptive fabrics.” Lela Rose “Luxe and ladylike.” Stacey Bendet, Alice & Olivia “Eileen Gray meets junior high.” Sophie Buhai & Lisa Mayock, Vena Cava I’m getting more excited as the day grows nearer….Yigal Azrouel is one of my favorites!

Everyone is Asking, “Did You Go to NYFW?….Why Not?”

For the last week or so, I have been getting questions about NYFW (aka New York Fashion or Mercedes Benz Fashion Week [they get very particular about receiving proper credit]) — in particular, the questions center around why, as a personal stylist/fashionista/style maven, I am not at the premier event of the season.  The answer is simple and perhaps disappointing to some: my goal as a stylist has very little to do with NYFW runway fashion. Truth be told, there

A New Blog and A Stylish Writer on the Scene

While in New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I was invited to attend an evening mixer hosted by Style Coalition and ideeli at the W Hotel- The Tuscany.  The gift bags were fabulous and chock-full-of-treats, the bubbly was flowing freely, and the conversation was lively.  I had the chance to meet and talk with an up-and-coming style fashion blogger, Sharon Laufer. Sharon is a native Floridian but has lived in New York City since 2004.  She has a wonderful spirit

The ‘Windows to the Soul’ Need More Luscious Doors

While in New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week activities, one can become overwhelmed with all of the “fashion” and “beauty” and I am no different.  I have mentioned previously that eyes can make your face ‘pop’ and it’s the eyelashes that help to make that happen.  I even took it so far as to have a well-attended Eyelash party last year so that other ladies could learn the secret to making your face ‘pop’. It occurred to me in NYC

ARISE Cape Town Fashion Week: Day 1 Recap

[singlepic id=80 w=320 h=240 float=center] I loved it!  The Cape Town Fashion Week is unlike many others in that it’s open to the public who can purchase tickets!  Day 1 started off about 3 hours behind schedule due to some set issues however, once started, it was full of surprises and stellar shows by relative newcomers to the fashion industry with Michelle Ludek being the highlight for me! Day 1 consisted of shows from the following: The Graduate Show: Featuring

Nabeela Abrahams at Cape Town Fashion Week

Nabeela aka Lady Noble hit the runways at the Cape Town Fashion Week as part of The Graduate Show!  There were over 25 students showing their creations and while we saw quite a bit of sequins and glitter, and a few outfits that could have used a few more finishing touches, Nabeela Abrahams‘ outfits were nicely done in her gold/purple color theme. Scherer Gonzalez was MBFWB’s Hands-down Winner for Wearability!

That may be a bit of overstatement but, it’s the internet and I can do that!  In reality though, Scherer Gonzalez presented a runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin that was elegant, clean, wearable, and feminine!  The color palette consisted of lots of ivory, dark red, and topaz (and a few others), and the entire line was silk – can you get any more feminine than silk?!

Smeilinener’s MBFWB Theme, “Vive La Fete”

Smeilinener’s vision for MBFWB Spring/Summer 2010 was about expressing authenticity, ambition, and passion.  She used a lot of free-flowing designs and layering – and definitely tons of color!  The line used crepe de chine and duchesse-silk from China, cotton-viscose-jersey, and denim from Japan.  The colors that dominated were emerald green, fuchsia pink, lipstick red and mandarin orange (see below). While I do not see most of the items translating to everyday wear, a few of the pieces show promise for special
