closeted lifestyle

your personal style matters…regardless of who sees it! Checking in around November 2019, I was happily planning out my meteoric entrepreneurial rise in 2020. I was rocking fitted denim, vintage tees, and blazers everywhere. Add to that a fedora since late nights often meant ‘hard’ sleep which resulted in many mornings of ‘pencil top’ head (smh). I was overwhelmingly casual since my current contract – which would soon end – was remote. Casual meant a light shirt with a chunky

fashion in the new world of work

Excerpt from a series called Curated Career Conversations: my interview with Sarah Johnston A year ago, my professional “uniform” included shift dresses and pumps. With my new work-from-home lifestyle, I wear sneakers almost exclusively. Apparently, I’m not the only one who has said farewell to uncomfortable heels. According to the research firm NPD Group, dress shoe sales dropped 71% in Q2 2020, compared to last year. That’s not the only thing changing in the world of fashion. Makeup sales have sharply declined, Tailored

problem: I’ve got to go back to work but not sure what I need

Problem: After 100+ days of living in sweats/leggings, I’ve got to go back to work (3 days/week) but I’m not even sure what I need to wear or have in my closet. Solution: Easing back into your kinda everyday work life after living in leggings/sweats + tee can be touch! You can do it in 7 steps!! [Sounds crazy but…start showering everyday and getting up at a decent hour] Pick-up your drycleaning – it’s been 100+ days and you never know what

problem: do I need bottoms for video conferences?

Problem: I’m doing video conferences almost everyday but do I have to put on bottoms or dress up below the waist? Solution: YES – you want something to cover your ‘special parts’ just in case there is a camera malfunction….or you stand up, forgetfully! For every client, I have the same advice along with the links to purchase the essentials. Create two uniforms so you have them at-the-ready. Ideal men’s pants and perfect women’s bottoms! Wear a nice top

my longstanding love affair with denim

I’m not sure when I came to admit it but I’ve had a longstanding love affair with denim for as long as I can remember! I thought it happened when I became an entrepreneur in the early 2000s and got to see how flexible it was but no. I thought maybe it happened when I purchased my first pair of $200+ jeans in Philadelphia with my friend Natalie back in the mid-90s but no. I wondered if it was when

onesies for #wfh

What about a one-piece for work?! Since this quarantine and lockdown has been in effect, I’ve been trying to think of new ways to keep it fresh while working from home. One way I’ve come up with to ensure I’m still comfy and look pulled together – but not expending too much effort (lol) – is to do onesies in the form of rompers and jumpsuits! I like to add pizazz just like the next chick-a-dee but when I’m not

everyday #wfh earrings

Most folks know that my favorite earrings are my Erickson Beamon razor’s edge earrings! But given our everyday situation is working-from-home, they hardly seem appropriate so, I’ve had to find something else. Frankly, I need/want earrings because they add sparkle to the face but also for impromptu FaceTime calls that I field (now that I’ve relaxed my hair again!!). Plus I need something I can fall asleep in that won’t hurt me when I wake up the next morning. The

my #quarantine routine

I am quarantining in Washington, DC and it’s been a mixed bag so far. Pre-Quarantine Normally, my day would start around 7am sans an alarm clock and I would spend a couple of minutes praying and meditating, and then hit my iPhone hard (because it sleeps next to me).  My laptop wasn’t far away and my strategy was to tackle any important emails first-thing so I could then do follow-up later. My pre-quarantine dressing was jeans + tee if I had

no brainer classic ankle pants

They are moisture wicking, water repellant, and 3x dry fabric. And right now they’re under $60 – and go up to size 12 so it was a no-brainer!! I sccoped them in the petrified oak color so they could work for spring and fall when I need to go from casual living to impromptu business meeting…. WINNING again!!
