Mary J. Blige’s #LondonSessions

The London Sessions [video] 100% easy-to-listen to and you will instantly connect with the songs. The beats are infectious (listen to Right Now and I dare you not to start moving!)… What I love is the video for Right Now ~ it’s old school Mary doing her classic, slightly-rhythmless-bop but you’ll bump it in your car, as your pre-game on Friday night, and you’ll request it as the club.

The entire album seems to be a journey across a few ups and downs (with more ups). She shares in traditional Mary-fashion about “her” experiences and you are instantaneously drawn to the songs because somewhere in the song, ‘you can relate’. I sense that more folks will relate because the music is downtrodden; instead, it’s a recollection from a better place….which is where I suspect we all want to be. You can’t forget the experiences but you can learn and grow from them.

I tried to listen for the “London” influence and you’ll get it (check out My Loving and Follow), I swear! Fresh, innovative, riddled with soul, She recorded this album in just three weeks and it’s got to be her most mature collection of work yet…and rightly so. I grew up listening to Mary and cheerleading for her evolution so to hear this is powerful and helps me to breathe a sigh of relief that Mary is in a great headspace right now. And I can’t forget Long Hard Look ~ it resonates with me like a new popular song called Latch. I like it a lot!

The album releases on December 2nd ~ get ready to be conflicted because your surroundings will say ‘it’s time for Christmas music’ but you’ll want to rock it regularly and often. Right Now IS MY NEW ANTHEM! Then I heard Pick Me Up ~ and on a dreary Monday, it was exactly what I needed to start planning a beach getaway.

My take away ~ you’re going to love it. You’re going to pump it on 10 (if you’re ears can handle it). You’re going to rock Nobody But You anytime you need a reminder of that man. You’re going to want to run to any London club and get your swerve on all night.

Ready. Set. Rock!

You go Mary!!
