Color Combos

Color Psychology & Pink

Color psychology is the study of how colors affect our moods, behaviors, and interactions with others and ourselves. Since I can remember, my two favorite colors were navy blue and camel. More recently, I have added hot pink or cerise and vibrant/kelly green (see my specs!) to that list. Now, I am a wardrobe stylist and personal branding expert so I am aware that colors affect moods and, more specifically, how we show up and move throughout the day. In

It’s Layering Season!

Did you know there’s a formula that can help you layer properly?! We are officially cold on the East Coast so, no better time than the present to learn how to layer right. Layering is the smart choice for a few reasons: Take a peek at my pictures above: I’m rocking a sleeveless crewneck tee, an oversized white button-down (WBD), a short trench with a lining, and a multicolored scarf. I have color using my scarf, the tee is thin,

Sequin Pants for the Holidays

What signals fun and festive more than a pair of sequin pants?! Especially during the holiday season, we should all be looking for ways to add a little ‘festivity’ to our everyday looks. Sequins and metallics are an easy way to level up your everyday during the holiday season. The ones pictured above are from many seasons ago but the style still exists. The sequin palazzo pants are available in wine or black sequins (I would favor the wine color!).

guess what wardrobe item you need this summer?

Another must-have for busy professionals is a CRISP WHITE SHIRT. Simple, right? Anyone who knows me or any client who has worked with me knows I am a supporter/proponent/closet whisperer/advocate of the white button-down shirt. I’ve even recently published the updated excerpt, The White Shirt, from my latest book, The Creatives’ Closet! But, I digress…. The white shirt is AWESOME 😎 because it can go from day to date night, work to weekend, home to overseas without missing a beat

the 8 breathable fabrics for hot summer days

Apparently, El Nino will be ‘in the house’ this year! If you’re unfamiliar, here’s a quick refresher: El Niño is the climate pattern that warms up water in the Pacific Ocean every two to seven years. It can simultaneously lead to excessive rainfall and severe drought in different regions, particularly the tropics, AND because climate change exacerbates its effects, it can cause extreme heat. There’s a lot more to that story but, it means you can expect a hotter-than-usual summer

2022 color of the year

Sherwin-Williams unveiled its 2022 color of the year and it’s 100% aligned with the tone of “the year of transition“! The color is evergreen fog and it’s like taupe, mint green, and beige had a baby….waalah! But after a year of trying to get ahead of the pandemic and its variants, dig ourselves out of political conflicts, heal from a divisive Presidential election, and so much more, it makes sense that such a muted but flexible color would be the choice!

“living” coral is pantone’s 2019 color of the year

While I’m not sure of the difference between “living” coral and non-living coral, so be it! Pantone’s 2019 color of the year, living coral, is bright, effusive, friendly, energizing but soft, and vibrant but slightly mellow. I can play nice with other colors but it’s not made for everyone. I found a few fun pieces that can allow you to participate in the ‘color of the year’ fun without going overboard or doing too much… [show_lookbook_widget id=”410826″]

do something different for valentine’s day

I’m writing to advocate sending love to someone else this year on Valentine’s Day. Consider your girlfriends, your boys since childhood, the lady you’ve been crushin’ on but haven’t bothered to say anything to, or your kids (regardless of age)… It’s a made-up day anyway so make good use of it! Show your love and make someone feel special next Wednesday (and I find etsy does great at these kinds of gifts)… [show_lookbook_widget id=”384577″]

TOP 2017 fashion trends: ruching, ASYMMETRY, ruffles, bowties

This fashion asymmetry trend is another favorite along with ruching and its everywhere right now: ruffles, ruching, asymmetrical hemlines and bowties! I hate being a ‘slave to the trends‘ but this one is easy because it’s not going anywhere! It is, however, our last post dedicated to these trends, where to find them, how to wear them, and what to avoid. To find it, head to Topshop, Shopbop, H&M and Need Supply. And if you want to do it right:

This is my favorite current trend and its everywhere right now: ruffles, ruching, asymmetrical hemlines and bowties! And as much as I hate being a ‘slave to the trends‘, I’m in love with ruching because it’s so forgiving! This is our second last post dedicated to these trends, where to find them, how to wear them, and what to avoid. Ruching can be done anyway you please and its the perfect camouflage for that still-working-on-it midsection and adds just a

So our next four posts will be dedicated to these trends, where to find them, how to wear them, and what to avoid. Pantone 2017 Color of the Year – Greenery

Every year, Pantone comes out with its “Color of the Year” and for 2017 it’s Greenery! It’s bright but surprisingly versatile in its pairing. It can be toned down or brightened up with some great vibrants ~ and it’s pretty preppy too! As a tried-and-true navy/camel/red palette girl, I wasn’t sure this color would make a showing in my closet in 2017 but I think it can happen using this color palette… It has hints of my navy and camel!!

The ONE COLOR to Add To Your Closet This Fall

I know I share the Pantone Color of the Year and what not but, this is not that. I’m talking a color that will set off your boring black but also play nicely with your camels, browns, tans, and khaki colors. Drumroll…..aubergine! [show_shopthepost_widget id=”1042084″] For the fellas, this should be fun because it gives you just a little somethin’ but still works with your dark suits and your casual Friday tan slacks. Note that you can get jiggy with some

You already have jeans and probably another denim item but if you’re debating taking your denim to work, consider the following three rules: dark denim only your denim should be free of whiskering, embellishments, etc only one piece of denim per look Given my love for denim, you can

Are You Ready For The 4th?!

I consider Memorial Day, the 4th, and Labor Day weekends the quintessential “holiday” weekends that warrant lots of pre-gaming to avoid looking too contrived. I’ve culled all three long weekends down to five items. Here are my caveats: Memorial Day weekend – it may not be warm enough so you’ll need to substitute the breezy cover-up for a more, sweater-like option. Gotcha covered! PLus bring a rain hat Labor Day weekend – I’ve rarely run into an occasion where it’s

The Vastness of Denim

I am reminded of the versatility and vastness of denim – it’s everywhere! It’s an American bred “thing” that is everywhere, all the time, and goes across cultures, time zones, functions, and needs. I was thumbing through More, a magazine for women 40+, and I found a look that I loved! Denim can go anywhere – in this particular picture, it’s about layering…with the styling key to show ankle/skin so it doesn’t appear overly bottom heavy! This is a look

They’re Going The Way of The Samurai

Piperlime. C. Wonder. Kate Spade Saturday. These are just a few of the popular clothing and accessory brands that are shuttering their proverbial doors in 2015. They are going the way of the samurai…but why? I’m sure the analysis has been done that says they weren’t generating enough revenue to cover expenses, or the profit margins were declining incrementally with no end in sight. I’ll go with any/all of those explanations ~ along with my own. In a time of shorten
