What I’m Reading Wednesdays

Last week was New York Fashion Week (#NYFW) so everything I read was focused on what’s on the runway and how to move from the catwalk to the walkway. And of course, I got to share my thoughts on some of the latest NYFW trends on Let’s Talk Live on Friday…along with two other fashion folks, Julia Farr and Grant Harris. It was such an honor and such a blast!! Fashion as an Inescapable Institution (The Society Pages) In fashion,

What to Know About the Spring 2014 Fashion Season

Very few sources will give you the “real” skinny on what you need to know for the Spring 2014 fashion weeks. So go to “the” source, Vogue. They give you 27 things to know and while some of them are totally weird, some are very insightful and should give you enough to chat-it-up with any fashion diva or don!

I Hit The #NYFW Runway for Old Navy

OK so I had such a blast rocking the runway for #NYFW wearing my Old Navy Rockstar Jeans (colored skinny jeans) in kelly green and I’ve got pictures to prove it. It was not only fun but I may have found my new/latest calling!! It was exciting – the music, the behind-the-stage directions and guidance, the energy from the other bloggers walking and snapping quick photos, the crowd cheering as you hit the runway, doing your strut or sashay down

NYFW 2012: Bespoken

Bespoken styled the staff uniforms for NoMad Hotel in NYC. Fayed and Goncalves brothers are the designers. Inspired by how sharply dressed the Roma were, albeit a little rough around the edges {the way many a young man of today wears his suit}. Unstructured tailoring keeps Bespoken’s prices affordable. The line is growing including the introduction of a full tie collection. What do you think of the look?

Ideeli Does Fashion Week at Fab Prices!

Anyone “participating” in New York Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (#NYFW)? Ok so if you’re not going to any shows, did you at least do Fashion’s Night Out (#FNO) ~ ya know, when the stores stay open late so you can spend your money while well-known style personalities offer advice, DJs spin on the 1s and 2s, and the discounts are slightly better than normal? Well if you can’t attend any of the shows and if you missed Fashion’s Night Out,

New York Fashion Week: Tory Burch

Tory Burch‘s runway theme could have been aptly titled, “The Walk of Shame” kinda….”a prim and proper girl who falls for the wrong guy—in a hotel no less.” Style Notes: it was very Tory Burch with models rocking gloves and very ladylike chic purses; they were more buttoned up than not; the colors were fairly low key with creams and blues with hints of aubergine and earthiness; and the hemlines that hit just below the knee created thoughts of the

New York Fashion Week: Doo Ri

Doo Ri Chung‘s runway show was ‘business as usual’ and she returned to her well known roots as a “drapaing” queen. The overall palette was not colorful ~ highlighted by pale pink, browns and eggplant. Style Notes: I have been a fan of Doo Ri’s easy silhouette’s and slightly suppressed styling; she presented some very nice looks but nothing stunning Runway to Walkway: most pieces can make their way into the professional woman’s wardrobe without much fuss, but with a

New York Fashion Week: Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg named her collection “Rendezvous” ~ the program notes said, “Glamorous at a moment’s notice” and that’s that she gave! Style Notes: The collection used black as a staple but showed a wonderful array of reds, teals, soft dewy pinks, and touches of yellow and aubergine. It was amazingly flowy (read: feminine) without taking you into evening-wear unwillingly; and the bonus were the opera-length gloves featured on several of the models….beautiful and richly colored! Runway to Walkway: most

New York Fashion Week: Michael Bastian

I admired the European, curated casual look that hit the runway but even more intrigued by Michael Bastian‘s naming his show “The Extra Man”. Here’s the scoop as Style.com tells it: So-called “extra men” have a storied history in polite society: they’re natural-born charmers, called upon to make up numbers at the table, dance with undesirables, and escort other men’s wives to functions when the ladies’ husbands can’t be bothered.  Bastian turned up a 1974 listing of the top 30 the city

New York Fashion Week: Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese never disappoints  and this collection is no different. Style Notes: the collection was based in black but piled loads of vibrant colors like orange, teal and goldtones; the silhouettes were feminine but not overly fitted although the hemlines were a littel shorter than other collections; prints and textur variations throughout made this fabulous Runway to Walkway: just about every piece could walk off the runway and into the everyday diva’s closet without much fuss (except perhaps the price);

New York Fashion Week: Cushnie et Ochs

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs fashioned their collection after Pedro Almodóvar’s twisted tale, The Skin I Live and thus featured cutouts, some bandage-y type dresses, visible zippers, and a certain type of perverse sexiness in the dresses. Almodóvar’s grim and morbid tale talks of a surgeon’s desire to create skin that cannot burn because his now-deceased wife committed suicide following a car accident in which she was burned to a cinder. Without sharing any more details, the collection is worthy

New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu

For this collection, Jason Wu went back to his childhood Taiwan with his dad to come up with three answers to the question, “What is Chinese?” The answers were military China, historical China of the Qing Dynasty, and the “inauthentic” thirties and forties Hollywood version of China. The result was a more floral Jason Wu than is normal but mixed with his sporty staples along with armorlike quilting and Mao jackets and shirts (military China), lush embroidery (historical China), and
