The reviews have been mixed but Blueprint for Style‘s assessment of Target‘s debut of Jean Paul Gaultier was unremarkable…unfortunately. We were pleased that the sizing was adult-friendly (read: generous) but the material looked and felt a little cheap!
The March 7th debut was met with limited fanfare (think Anna Sui, Alexander McQueen collabs….).
The collaboration seemed to reinforce the ideal that if you truly want designer duds, you have to pay designer prices (on sale or clearance, of course)! In the end, you get what you pay for…. The attempt to take an edgy and oft misunderstood designer and go mainstream didn’t appear to meet with much success but, it was only my humble opinion. Others care to comment?
Note to self (and others): they did have a striped trench coat for $60 that was particularly cool – it sold out fast!!

Yea the only piece that stood out to me was the trench coat. I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some loved the collection some hated it.
I think it was decent, but I’ve still yet to see a designer collab w/ Target that stays true to their aesthetic. They always seem to “dumb down” their designs, which is unfortunate.
Nicole- unfortunately, I am in complete agreement with you! There is just something about a designer that says in order to get the true essence, you need to participate in their creations….not their collaborations!
