Tangerine Tango Is The Toast of The Town

Who died and made Pantone the authority on color?! Not sure but besides the obvious investigation that would need to take place, I’m too busy being mesmerized by this color. If you know me then you know I love orange and although this isn’t quite orange, it easily brings a smile to my face.

While I may love this reddish-orange hue with hints of yellow, the rest of the world may be aghasted at how loud it is, how uncomplimentary to their skin tone, or even how well it isn’t aligned with the rest of their wardrobe color palette. If you can step away from the ledge then we can share a few pieces to consider adding to be “on trend” without going overboard.

Pieces Felia Buckle Belt, $16

Whistles Suzette Clutch Bag, $242 (I love ladylike clutches that double as shoulder bags)

ASOS shirt with layering, $54 (I’ve dedicated 2012 to upping my blouse game, so this would be my choice!)

The color presents the opportunity to punctuate a conservative black pant suit, or simply to spice up jeans with color and asymmetry by wearing the layered shirt.

You’ll see designers including 3.1 Phillip Lim and Nanette Lepore adding this palette to their collections such make sure you know the color.

Tangerine Tango as defined by Pantone: “Sophisticated, but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenalin rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” Provocative and attention-getting, yet warm and welcoming, Tangerine Tango works equally well in fashion for women, men and kids as well as in cosmetics, home furnishings, packaging and industrial design.

Here is Pantone’s video on how colors are created (they have 175 new ones)!

Of those looks below, it’s not hard to imagine that I’d try just about all of them ~ but Rachel Roy‘s colorblocking look is wearable from desk to date, says ‘relaxed chic’ and easily takes you in the weekend with a pair of navy blue Converse to pound the New York streets….
