Spring/Summer 2010 Key Trends

Blueprint for Style wants you to be ‘in the know‘ but, not abuse the know!

  • Hot pants & boy shorts: you should be in the gym anyway because nothing promotes your personal brand better than looking and feeling good BUT that’s where it stops!  This is for 24 years old and under….
  • Knee high & over the knee socks: this is a trend we should observe but not necessarily participate in
  • Future warrior: military and tribal trends are here (again)!  Participate in this trend by wearing military-style jackets (which we discussed last week) or feminine and flowy leather — stop there!
  • High dress splits: do it and indulge…after you’ve done your mandatory 30-minutes at the gym
  • Sporty clothing: translates to effortless chic and little of the tomboy look — ideal for the weekends and vacations.  Watch for 20s inspired tennis looks
  • Jumpsuits: we started with rompers, onesys and bodysuits, and while this trend won’t be for everyone, focus on chic jumpsuits with classic tailoring and fabrics on the runways for 2010
  • Patterned & printed pants: color blocking is gone and prints are here…everywhere!  use them to add color and texture to your winter wardrobe, and help transition you into spring
  • See-through and sheer fabrics: sheer pieces can be sof and feminine or make you look like a sex-kitten.  The runway will show both extremes but, if you want to partake, try a slice of the trend with nudes!
  • Boyfriend blazers: e slightly oversized jackets with rolled up sleeves are the essence of relaxed coolness.  Throw in a pair of boyfriend jeans and you’re ready for any runway…and the weekend!
  • Ripped/destroyed jeans: very big in 2008 and 2009, and not really gone.  The best way to gain traction with this trend may be to do patches since showing skin can sometimes miss the ‘chic’ feel
  • Blue and teal colors: blue and all of its shades will be gracing the runways for sure!  The First Lady has made color more popular and, in DC where blue reigns, look for all of the varietals out and about

  1. I love the boyfriend blazer trend. You can wear it so many different ways. About the blue/teal, I saw this picture of the First Lady and she had it paired with a bright orange!

  2. Wow… the 20s tennis look is back! I also like anything in the “blue” family… thanks for the heads up..
