A Spring 2010 Trend: “Tribal” Prints

A Spring 2010 Trend: “Tribal” Prints

We at Blueprint for Style acknowledge two truths to be self-evident: what we see on the runway isn't always what we get in the stores as fashion consumers, and sometimes runway outfits should be limited to the runway!

With that said, as Everyday Divas, these outfits are hard to pull off either because they cost too much, aren't actually comfortable, or are completely inappropriate for a professional work environment BUT, we are not outta this game yet!  We can take note of certain trends and, if your desire is to be cutting edge, we can extrapolate (read: dream up) how the Everyday Diva would ensure this tribal print trend isn't lost in translation:

  • We still haven't fully confirmed what everyone means when they say "tribal" but we infer the fashion world is talking about bold prints...and just wants to name it something cool!
  • Everyday Divas should focus on one high note in the outfit rather than an orchestra of noise...
  • If multiple patterns is desired, try to use a strong color that exists in both patterns
  • "Tribal" patterns allow for less jewelry and adornment because the clothing itself is the statement
  • Generally use of multiple patterns is found on shorter outfits/dresses to allow skin to work as a backdrop or canvas
  • Stick to after-hours, clubbing or out-on-the-town to avoid whispers and chatter of your impending 'pink slip'
  • Many time, 'less is more' and that includes the amount of fabric used so, for ladies that require more coverage, this may be a trend to skip

There's more but, this should cover the fundamentals.  For more help in how to wear "tribal" patterns or what they are, click here!
