Speaking at a local Fashion Week event
Let’s get straight to the point: What to Wear When Presenting matters whether it’s a Zoom pitch, keynote address, or panel discussion. You may have all the right data, but if your look doesn’t align with your message, your presence gets muted. And we can’t have that.
Here’s the truth: people form impressions in under 7 seconds. Before you say a word, your wardrobe is already speaking. So let’s make sure it’s saying, “I’m confident, credible, and completely in control.”
Presenting Style Checklist (for men + women):
- Start with Structure
A tailored blazer (double-breasted for women, sharp single-button for men) anchors your presence. It says leadership without a single word - Create a Focal Point
Think statement earrings or a bold lip. For men, this could be a colorful pocket square, printed tie, or luxe leather sneakers. Draw the eyes up, keep the energy and attention near your face - Comfort, But Elevated
Breathable fabric, slight stretch, soft layers. You want ease, not effort. Standing, sitting, mic-wearing: all should feel natural - Brand-Align Your Outfit
Choose colors or textures that reflect your professional brand. Are you sleek and modern? Try monochrome or tone-on-tone neutrals. More creative? Incorporate rich hues or tactile textures. - Mind Your Shoes
If you’re standing, your feet matter. Men: polished oxfords or minimalist sneakers. Women: a block heel, elevated flat, or pointy-toe slingback. No flip-flops. We’re not negotiating!
Need a Bit More Guidance?
For women: a belted midi dress can be your presentation MVP. For men: try a polo shirt under a blazer adds a modern twist, polished but not stiff.
