Style Question of the Week

Question: A tailor has offered to make a silk suit for me but insists on a four-button styling.  The price is right at $400 but, will I look crazy or am I wasting money?

Answer: Hmmmm the price is definitely right but, your overall style scoring may be wrong.  While you won’t look crazy because there are men that clearly wear these types of suits, you will lean more toward the off-duty football player who also believes in bling and pinstripes on everything.  Net-net: a good tailor should be able to do a two- or three-button suit.

  1. It’s well worth it! Listen guys you know the saying, “you are what you eat” well, the same holds true for what you wear. You are what you wear! Invest in yourself and it will pay huge dividends.

  2. If one is going to pay for a tailored suit and not get what one wants…..might as well buy from the rack!

  3. Good Afternoon!!! Blueprint for Style,
I agree w/David if it is Tailored then it is what you want first. To add, most of my suit wardrobe are tailored suits, but my absolute “Fav!!!” is from off the rack @ Nordstroms, and it was a 3 button.

  4. Tito – in general, the 1-button for the guy isn’t an option. If you consider the size and girth of most men and understand that the buttons are in place to provide cover to your chest area, then you’ll see why one button, frankly, just doesn’t cover it!!

  5. who is that tailor? and how tall is the client? I always thought 4-button suits were for taller men (6′-4″ +) while the 3-button suit was for average height. of course the traditional 2-button is always classic. am i wrong?
