Boyfriend, dark wash, hipster, cropped, skinny, low-rise, trouser, bootleg, slouch, tapered, harem, stretch, distressed, capri, bell bottom, destroyed, straight leg, flared, stonewashed, high-rise, classic, cigarette, high-waisted…with all of these adjectives, which ones do you wear when, and with what?!
A few tips to help to determine which ones when, and with what…
- Darker wash goes into evening easier than stone- or light washes
- Slim/skinny fits usually have lots of lycra or spandex so buy true to size, and know they should be tight!
- Look for a 1-inch break in leg–these are your everyday jeans with flats or wedges
- Just about every designer today has some stretch in their jeans, use it to your advantage
- If you have a little tummy, high-waisted, straight and trousers are the most complementary
- Bootcut, classic, and straight leg (with lycra) are the best for plus sizes
- Boyfriend jeans run large, more generous proportions, and have very little lycra
- Cigarette jeans are sexy–they show ankle and lots of shape!
- Flared are universally grunge–skip ’em unless you’re going to a 70’s party!
- Low-rise with butts or tummies are NOT friends!
- Dark wash trouser jeans are great for Friday business casual or plus sizes
- A belt will always show or create shape
- Proportion is important–skinny/straight jeans with ruffled or voluminous top, and trouser jeans with fitted tee
- Answer these questions: Can you breathe in the jeans? Can you sit down and get up without assistance? When you sit, is your derriere fully covered? If you answered “no” to any of these, try on a different pair!
- Distressed, destroyed, embellished have gone through additional treatments so, you will pay more!
- Shorter individuals do best with shape-showing jeans!
I favor darker washes with a slimmer cut, and that are slightly longer because I wear heels more often than not! My favorite brands include Hudson jeans (lots of stretch and great pocket placement), Joe jeans (weekend warriors), Elie Tahari jeans (straight leg with stretch for more modest fit), and Citizens of Humanity distressed, boyfriend jeans (‘ole faithfuls)!
Good luck and stay tuned for more key picks and special sales!!.

I like dark washes the best – they are so flattering! I would like to wear skinny jeans, but I am not sure how to wear them. Maybe you can do a post on the best way to wear skinny jeans!
Its really fine publish appreciation.
