Let’s be honest – luxury is fabulous, but full price? Not always necessary. If you’re smart about when, you can shop like a style insider. Knowing the best time to buy luxury lets you own the good stuff without the guilt.
Seasonality, retail cycles, and insider intel all play a part. Here’s when to strike gold—without maxing out your card. Here’s when to shop for furs, electronics, denim, cashmere, designer fashion, handbags, and shoes based on insider intel and seasonal trends.
✦ The Best Time to Buy Luxury by Category
1. Designer Handbags
- When to buy: June and December
- Why: Retailers clear out stock before cruise and spring lines drop
- Consider: The RealReal
2. Shoes (Luxury + Designer)
- When to buy: End of January and mid-July
- Why: Post-holiday and end-of-season clearance sales offer major markdowns on high-end footwear
- Consider: the “basically fabulous” flats you’ll wear forever, and the one-off footwear that IS the outfit
3. High-End Designer Fashion
- When to buy: June and November
- Why: Think pre-Fall and post-Fall markdowns. Designer sales align with fashion week calendar flips
- Consider: Vestiaire Collective
4. Cashmere
- When to buy: February and August
- Why: Cashmere clearance happens just after winter and before fall launches. Less selection, but better prices
- Consider: ethical production practices and a micron count below 16 (the lower the count, the finer the fiber)
5. Denim
- When to buy: March and October
- Why: Most retailers rotate core denim collections before spring and fall styling resets
- Consider: Japanese brands, as they’ve mastered denim, and denim that is 100% cotton is sturdier, harder to break in, but lasts soooo much longer
6. Electronics (because luxury isn’t just wearable)
- When to buy: Black Friday (late November) and Amazon Prime Day (mid-July)
- Why: Best prices on smartwatches, noise-canceling headphones, and gadgets that upgrade your travel + style experience
- Consider: the ability to fix/repair or find older parts when choosing not to upgrade
7. Furs
- When to buy: February and March
- Why: Retailers discount inventory before spring—and it’s still cold enough to wear them now
- Consider: jackets over coats (more everyday wearable), think fox for fullness, but note that minks are considered the standard because of texture, color, and warmth
Knowing the best time to buy luxury is about timing your investments. Plan ahead, spend smart, and elevate with intention.
