Fab Fall Look

I love this look for a few reasons: fedoras present a more polished and upscale feel…..the fur coat is funky and edgy and adds dimension to a neutral-colored outfit….flats are travel-friendly and the cognac color is absolutely perfection….the gray pants hang perfectly and although I don’t love front pleats, they create a laidback, downtown chicness that is undeniable. Let this be inspiration for shopping your fall closet….or adding a few fabulous pieces (click the pic)!

Yea or Nay?

Sequins are very ‘now’ and the 80s are back in fashion, but are these Palazzo Bruciato sequins high tops really contemporary cool or really 80s high-n-dry? Our vote: we love all things shiny and can see specific occasion to rock these, but on the whole we’d prefer a neutral shiny like silver or bronze!

Keeping it Casual

The professional today has a myriad of choices when it comes to suits and other clothing that keep them looking polished and “suit”able for the workplace.  One of the biggest complaints or concerns I hear about is how to go from work to casual. The answer is not in purchasing new items although that can get you what you need…rather the more fiscally responsible answer is to use what you have.  So, separate your suits and mix them with your

Manly Monday Style Meter

A stylish start to the week from last week’s lessons learned… Motorcycles are Sexy: …and so are the men that ride them! Tune-in: A man who is “tuned in” to his partner is always a dapper don.  You have two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as much as you talk. Equally Yoked:  Why is it that a man can wear something fashionably ‘unremarkable’, but his partner looks absolutely stunning?!  Shouldn’t couples be equally yoked in the style sense

Can You Dress for Success?

The way you dress tells people who you are the minute you walk into a room — the average person assesses you within 20 seconds of meeting you.  So what does your work wardrobe say about you: professional and stylish or too casual and clueless?  The way you dress conveys respect to those with whom you interact, and it helps you feel confident.  Rule of thumb:  dress for the job you want, not the job you have!  Take cues from

Earth-friendly Timberlands

I’m a Lucky Magazine Alpha Shopper and as such, I receive merchandise from time to time.  This go-round it is a pair of Timberland Earthkeepers Chauncey Pressed Tall Zip Boot in dark brown.  They’re lovely and comfortable….and, hello, they’re earth-friendly! As if that weren’t enough, the heel is 100% easy for everyone, the lug sole means it’s super for less-than-nice weather, and the tall shaft means you’ll do well with pants and skirts!  I had a chance to rock mine while

Jewelry Designer: Ruth Barzel

I had the opportunity to meet and chat with a fabulous woman while ‘doin the dirty’ (aka shopping) at Aprés Peau a couple of weeks ago.  The jewelry designer, Ruth Barzel, uses what she sees everyday in magazine, on the streets and on the internet to find inspiration for her pieces.  She’s been doing this for years now, but still exclaimed “Score!” when she secured her first client!  We chatted for a bit and here’s what she had to say…that

Patterned Dresses & Matching Belts

I’ve seen a lot of dresses where the belts are in the same pattern as the dress. Is this a fashion do or don’t? —Lisa, via the Ask Style inbox It may seem like a don’t, a wasted (waisted?) opportunity to rock a truly amazing belt. But not so! This look is actually a fashion do. It may also apply as do-it-yourself.  Ciara looked terrific at LaLa‘s wedding in her Versace dress, and Maggie Grace was equally gorgeous in the

Does the Runway Equal the ‘Real World’?

NY Fashion Week Runway Presentations Still Do NOT Reflect Consumers! (excerpt from blog article by Keli Goff) www.keligoff.com “Most of the runways at New York Fashion Week this year were about as diverse as a Tea Party rally.  Meaning they weren’t.” “Out of 4699 looks, 405 or 8.6 percent models were African-American, 345 or 7.3 percent were Asian, 114 or 2.4 percent were Latino, 149 or 3.2 percent were considered other (we couldn’t decipher their ethnicity but they weren’t Caucasian) and

Blurred Lines Between Fashion & Beauty

I would love to believe that beauty and fashion are the same, but alas it’s not true.  As a matter of fact, while I consider myself to be stylish person, I am painfully aware of the fact that I am makeup-illiterate in comparison to most beauty divas.  Sure I have a proclivity toward pretty packaging and great coloring, but that’s it. Well, this week a friend of mine who runs her own beauty blog and is definitely beauty-bountiful, Sondra, featured
