What’s Your Body Shape?

I’m an apple/pear-shaped!

Do you know your body shape? It’s actually a real thing!

You need to know because it helps you determine what clothing and accessories are ideal to highlight certain assets and hide problem areas. Certain clothes look better on certain people…

Said differently: have you ever wondered why you see something on a mannequin or even on your bestie, and then when you put it on, it doesn’t quite look the same? While zhush could be part of the problem, the real culprit is likely that your body shapes are different, and thus the same print pants and white button down don’t quite hit the same.

This is the first of two posts on body shape. Today, let’s just identify what your shape is. Jump in front of the mirror with no clothes or with items that are stretchy so you can get a true picture of what’s where! This is for men and women – and great to have in your Notes app on your phone along with your measurements (which is different from your sizing).

  • Hourglass: for women, and commonly considered the “ideal” shape, with proportional hips and shoulders and a smaller waist
  • Pear-shaped: this shape has wider hips, smaller bust and shoulders but with a defined waist
  • Apple-shaped: a fuller midsection with weight concentrated in the stomach, and a bust and waist that are similar
  • Straight/athletic: for men/women, shoulders, bust/chest, waist, and hips are of similar width
  • Inverted triangle: for men/women, broader shoulders and bust/chest with narrower hips and waist
  • Oval: for men/women, and this shape has a fuller midsection with a softer
  • Trapezoid: this is for men and commonly considered the “ideal” shape, broad shoulders and chest with a narrower waist and hips

Tips: look where you hold most of your weight, and get real about what areas you want to hide and what you want to highlight
