The What, Who & Why on Men’s Style Magazines

It’s question we get asked quite a bit so, we thought we’d take a stab at giving you some insight into which men’s style magazines are our favorites, which ones are good for what and not so hot for something else, etc.  This is our perspective, but please share your experiences and insights with us….and everyone else!

  • Men’s Health
    • Published in 44 editions, Men’s Health is the world’s largest men’s magazine and the best-selling men’s magazine in the U.S. Read this magazine if you’re interested in fitness, nutrition, sexuality, and men’s lifestyle. With a target audience of upscale men under the age of 45, each issue focuses on improving its readers’ minds as well as bodies.
  • Esquire
    • Read Esquire magazine if you’re a successful man looking to become even more successful & stylish at what you do. Covering topics including politics, sports, style, fiction, humor, food and drink, health and fitness, entertainment, and lifestyle, Esquire aims to be all things men.
  • GQ
    • GQ magazine focuses on fashion, style, and culture for men; other topics include health, entertainment, sports, technology, and luxury. Published in 14 countries, the most loyal readers are typically sophisticated, between the ages of 25-54, with a great desire for fashion and style.
  • Details
    • Details magazine is an American men’s magazine devoted to fashion and lifestyle, as well as social and political issues. Read if you are a male between the ages of 17 and 35, interested in adventure, style, music, humor, and pop culture. More than pretty faces and fast cars, Details is smart, sexy, and fun.
  • Men’s Journal
    • Men’s Journal is a men’s lifestyle magazine focused on outdoor recreation and editorials on the outdoors, environment issues, health and fitness, style and fashion. Read this if you enjoy not only looking at pictures involving an interest of yours, but reading about it as well since the articles are a little meatier!

Summary

  • Our favorite: GQ
  • Our take: there’s very little out there for men who aspire to be dapper on a more limited budget, or who are bigger/broader/less in shape
  • Our want: a men’s magazine that has pictures of style from more than just slim and tall types; and that offers insight into everyday solutions whether you’re in an office, making deliveries, a stay-at-home dad, or doing customer service at a local print shop!
