My Favorite NYFW Designer: Oscar de la Renta

I wanted to share my favorite designer from New York Fashion Week…..so here you go and I hope you enjoy it as much as I love Oscar de la Renta!

Greatly influenced by his childhood in the Dominican Republic and his apprenticeship at Balenciaga in Madrid and couture assistant at Lanvin in Paris, Oscar de la Renta is today one of the world’s leading designers.  Two words for the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011 collection–“Trés Riche!” Yes, the collection was indeed very rich–an experience of elegance filled with opulence and exoticism.  In direct contrast to the minimalist trend and the more toned-down looks from past seasons in response to the recession, Oscar de la Renta chose to design a nomadic collection inspired from Eastern and Middle Eastern culture full of fur, tweeds and metallics with a breathtaking burst of sequin, feather, and velvet embellishments everywhere!  His undaunted combination of ethnic-inspired prints and textures is an amazing sight on the runway.  His gowns were once again fabulous but instead of his signature full-skirted looks, Oscar de la Renta gravitated towards sleek, long column gowns.  The collection is definitely not for the everyday woman, more for the woman on Park Avenue, but nonetheless beautiful to drool over and dream about!
