the classic white button-down
The white button-down is still as classic as ever but must have this feature to ensure its versatility. It’s still a wardrobe essential, one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe arsenal, a core component of your “elusive” capsule collection, and as awesome as ever!
Everyone wants to make a fuss over “something new” but the classic white button-down is here to stay and doesn’t need to reinvent itself. Find YOUR perfect one, buy it in multiples, and love everything it can and will do for your wardrobe, style, and brand. I can talk endlessly about it (as I do in my first book, Without Saying A Word: The Silent Power of Style) but today, we’re discussing one simple aspect of the perfect white button-down.
Pro tip: when looking for the perfect white button-down, look for a shirt that does not have pockets on the front.
This is a proclamation for those who are on the hunt for that first classic, versatile white button-down that will go from work to weekend, stateside to overseas, office to beach chair, Columbus, OH to Cape Town, South Africa, and the brutal summer of DC to the bone-chilling cold of Fargo, ND in winter (I’ve been and it’s cold!). If you believe in buying less and using it more then start with this white button-down to take you far and wide. This is a great “starter” white button-down because (1) the collar is generous for popping, (2) the fit is straight but not too fitted and not too oversized, (3) the price is reasonable even when it’s not on sale, and (4) its made from a combination of cotton and lyocell (Tencel) which is wood pulp and gives it some stretch.
Two backup options include this very similar one along with a slightly pricier version which is all cotton and more fitted but offers side slits to accommodate more curvier figures.
Go forth, be stylish, and own your white button-down in all its glory!
