The older I get, the more I enjoy the holiday season because I’ve come to understand there’s a reason for this season. Yes, I enjoy it more now because business slows down and the frenetic pace comes to a halt. But it also means that smiles and good cheer turn up even if for a day or week. We get to show up as our best selves in loving each other just a touch more! The widely held belief is that Christmas is for kids and that they get all the gifts. While I do think it’s true that kids brighten up the house and amp up the holiday spirit, over the years, with fewer and fewer gifts under the tree, it’s given me a chance to reflect on how truly blessed I am despite the lack of physical items.
That I am here today is a blessing. That each year goes by, my list gets shorter and shorter either because I’ve purchased what I want for myself – and could! – or I am satisfied with what I have. That I find myself in a position to give more than I receive warms my heart. That I get to spend more time with my family and loved ones is joy. That I get just a little more love from everyone I meet is glorious. That I have everything I need to do everything that needs doing is, yet again, a blessing.
So, suffice it to say…
I wish you and yours a very Merry Christ-mas and pray that you get a glimpse of the reason for the season!
