14 Days of Fall Fashions! Day 7 & To Top it Off Right…

To top it off right, fall calls for a “proper” hat that can worn to work on a nippy day or rocked at a jazz club on Friday night.  The runways haven’t been littered with them as they’re hard to pull off but, with a few reminders, just about anyone could make a hat look good and their outfit better!

Keys to remember when wearing a hat:

  1. Ensure the width of the hat is bigger than your head otherwise, you’ll look like Lil Abner
  2. Trilbys are easier to wear than Fedoras because the brim is slightly smaller and easier to “control”
  3. Coordinate the hat with the general color theme of your outfit or with your bottoms to balance the color/matching
  4. Ensure the top of the hat rests forward rather than at the back of your head
  5. For fall stay away from bigger brims, they’re more prone to be carried away with a brisk fall wind!

A few examples that can work well into fall include: [nggallery id=13]

  • Rag & Bone Metro Trilby, $125: navy wool with a black grosgrain ribbon trim; navy will work great with camel and neutrals as well as greys!
  • Wool Felt Trilby Hat, $44: mushroom-colored wool hat with velvet trim
  • Buckle Detail Cloche, $48: at Nordstrom, this felted wool cloche comes in black, charcoal and eggplant (my favorite) and provides a slightly more feminine alternative to the fedora, trilby and baseball cap

Hats make wonderful accessories especially on bad hair days and if pulled together with the right outfit (including jeans and tee), they can make even the worse hair day a little more chic!.
