This week’s ‘6 Things…’ is dedicated to New York Fashion Week (#NYFW) and how to make it useful for the everyday diva, mommy-on-the-go, corporate bigshot, and innovative entrepreneurs….all of which don’t necessarily or fully engage in all the hoopla. BTW- it’s kinda fun!
- There are several Fashion Weeks around the world, but only four majors (Milan, Paris, London and New York). Of those majors, I dare say New York’s closes out the season and receives the most hype (Americans are so dang chatty and into hyperbole)
- One of the biggest bruh-ha-ha’s to kickoff NYFW is FNO or Fashion’s Night Out which occurred last night. Fashion’s Night out is in it’s third year and is an after-hours shopping smorgasbord — and occurs in many major cities across the world. It’s all about celebrity sightings, discounts, just-for-FNO special items, and just playing your part in likely the world’s largest shopping event.
- A little weird to some, but this NYFW is called Spring 2012…they are named based on the collections to be shown not the current season you’re in!
- Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will have shows from over 99 designers including…..LiveRunway
- If you’ve lucked up and are attending a show (yay!), here’s our outfit recommendation (this works for men and women…less the belt):
- Black, skinny pants/jeans
- Fitted, leather jacket
- White, button down shirt/t-shirt
- (get colorful) Wide, colorful belt
- Comfortable shoes but as high as you can stand….I am a lover of leopard print (gents: black leather sneakers)
- Sizeable bag with something interesting (like studs, criss-cross patterns, weaving, etc.)
- Oversized sunglasses (they can work as a pseudo headband if it’s cloudy)
- My favorite designers to see because their runway is translatable to the walkway are Diane von Furstenberg (9/11 @ 4PM), Vivienne Tam (9/10 @ 3PM), Carolina Herrera (9/12 @ 10AM), J Crew (9/13 @ 9:30AM), Elie Tahari (9/14 @ 7PM), and Calvin Klein(9/15 @ 2PM)
