I hesitated doing any post related to Mother’s Day and that’s simply because I don’t have a mother….anymore. My mother passed away in 2001 and since then, I haven’t actually celebrated the holiday – truthfully, I’ve tucked myself away from the day and the corresponding celebrations. This year I wanted to try something different and doing this post for #CollectiveBias to highlight the Walmart Family Mobile Plan was a great chance to test the mental waters with my feelings around this holiday. Walmart is a little like wal king through a grocery store when you’re hungry – you want everything you see! I tooled through a few aisles before arriving (hands full) at the electronics section to scoop my new phone.
Using an unlimited talk, text, and data/web plan allowed me to surf and, come Mother’s Day, I’ll be sending out some fun and colorful messages to the ladies who are rocking the world! If my mother were here, she’d likely do her signature two-step dance because the phone was simple enough for her to use (without reading the directions) and a very inexpensive plan (since she said I didn’t know anything about bargain-shopping!). The family mobile plan is awesome for me but spot-on for the busy moms of the world.
I focused on the moms in my life, my mother’s sisters, and the newest mom that I have a clear love and affinity for, my cousin Candice. This #FamilyMobile allows you to send flowers (real or virtual) and love (real only!) to those trailblazers and nurturers that have made us what we are today…. So ‘times are a changin’ and 21st century means we can’t always be with the ones we love but it allows us to send/show our love in spite of location.
This year I’m using my new phone to send “flowers” to all the moms….by way of the internet (the actual sending of flowers would be prohibitively expensive for me!). They are not my mother but I’ve seen them invest their time, talent and treasury into their offspring and so flowers are just to say “I noticed”. Admittedly, not every mom gets the flowers so I’ll also use my phone to send a few fun texts in the morning…..to help start their day with a smile.
The role of mom is big, all-encompassing, influential, and can be consuming. My hat off to every mom out there! And my recommendation: spread the message, share the love, and show your gratitude….even if your mom isn’t here.
In advance, Happy Mother’s Day!

I couldn’t imagine celebrating Mother’s Day without my mother. I’m so glad you’ve been able to change your focus and celebrate the mother figures in your life this year. #client
Thanks Danielle! Stay tuned and I’ll share how it turns out….(fingers crossed)
